N°09 pocket knife, produced by Opinel, featuring a stainless steel blade and a beechwood handle.

Reliable and robust, it is a multifunctional tool within everyone's reach. Its stainless steel blade is corrosion-resistant, and the beech wood handle is comfortable in the hand.

Martensitic stainless steel
The stainless steel used for OPINEL blades is optimized to provide both high corrosion resistance and excellent mechanical performance.
The blade offers outstanding sharpness and abrasion resistance, allowing it to withstand regular contact with hard materials such as ceramics before requiring resharpening. Unlike carbon steel, stainless steel does not require special maintenance under normal conditions of use. However, it may be affected by prolonged exposure to aggressive environments (acid, salt water, detergents, etc.).
Steel hardness: 55–57 HRC.

Yatagan blade
The classic Opinel blade features a Yatagan shape. Inspired by a traditional Turkish sabre, the blade curves slightly upward at the tip. It is ground to an exclusive convex profile, ensuring strength and enabling efficient resharpening.

Handle
Beech is the most commonly used wood for Opinel handles. Sourced from France, it is strong, easy to work with, and durable. With a uniform appearance, its light colour varies from yellow to pink and is characterized by the presence of fine, darker lines.

Safety ring
Invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, the Virobloc safety ring is found on all folding knives from model N°06 onwards. Made of stainless steel, the Virobloc has two sections: one fixed and one sliding. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (for safe use), it now also allows the blade to be locked when closed (for safe transport).
