The history of ZWILLING began on June 13, 1731, when Peter Henckels, a skilled knife manufacturer from Solingen, registered the symbol of the Gemini as a trademark of the Guild of Knife Craftsmen from Solingen. This symbol, well known today throughout the world, is one of the oldest known trademarks.
Zwilling is recognized as one of the world's largest manufacturers of knives of the highest quality. Zwilling knives are produced based on their own permanently improved technologies, the result of over 270 years of experience in the field. Zwilling produced the steel needed for the products, by itself. Through the research carried out in this field, Zwilling has developed its own recipe of stainless steel of very good quality, which meets the requirements in the field of knife manufacturing. Zwilling also developed its own technologies in this field, one example being Friodur, or the low temperature hardening process, patented in 1939, which generates Friodur steel, steel with high carbon content, very resistant to corrosion and also easy to be shaped into blades that are very thin and resistant.
Over more than 250 years of existence, Zwilling has incorporated other renowned companies, which have brought their own know-how and value in a field of great interest. Thus, Zwilling includes today, brands such as Staub (well-known in the field of cast iron cooking pots), Demeyere (prestigious innovator in the field of cooking technologies), BSF (top quality cutlery) or Miyabi (Japanese manufacturer of knives).
