The term raclette is derived from the French word "racler", which translates to "to scrape". The translation refers to a dish originally from Switzerland, which is obtained by melting pieces of cheese either on the flame or on a special plate and then served to guests, along with garnishes of potatoes, cucumbers, pickles and dried meat (Prosciutto and Bindenfleisch). In the Valais area of Switzerland, raclette is served with various sorts of tea or other hot drinks. Another commonly used option is to serve this dish together with different sorts of wine (Savoy, Chasselas, Riesling and Pinot Gris).
